Computer Requirements
While it is possible to edit a music video on your cell phone, not only would it take 100 times longer for a good product, it would also turn out a very sad wannabe version of what you can do on a desktop/laptop computer.
Everything from the screen size to the processing power are going to make a major difference in your edit time and end results. Being able to edit a full music video in 4-6 hours instead of just 8-12 hours will really make the difference.
You are going to need a computer that can handle the load of video editing. So what I am going to recommend is that you get a computer that has at least the following specs or better:
8 GB of DDR 3 / DDR 4 RAM
2.0 GHZ Processor – Intel i5 or better
An upgraded video card that has its own RAM
Internet on the computer to activate your software use
What I’ve been editing on: I have been editing all of my recent music videos on a $400 laptop I got from newegg.com but you can also find laptops just as amazing for a great price on Amazon.
Here are a few hand-picked options of laptops that will work well for editing video on a budget. I’ll keep them in the $400 range since the current computer I use to edit cost just over $400.
A laptop is a great thing to own for portable use like editing and just being able to work on the go. But a desktop computer is a great option too. You can get a Desktop computer for a bit cheaper and it will have more power behind it. So if you would prefer a desktop computer here are a few choices for you. Don’t forget that this computer will be used day to day as well for other activities you do and is worth the investment to be able to edit and use it on the go. The reason these laptops are so powerful yet so cheap is that they are refurbished laptops. They are basically the best combinations of laptop parts rebuilt into a super-strong Frankenstein computer for a lower price. It’s not new, but it’s still a monster. I have purchased 3 refurbished computers and I never had a problem with any of them.
